The resurrection of blip...

Hello humans!!! This is not the first, not PlayerXT, and today I give you the honor of joining me on my incredible journey of rebuilding Blip in Loop!!!

Yes, I know I said I would focus on b17, and I am. Right now, I'm writing the game's script. But in the meantime, after the theme of the gamejam I participated in this year was about looping, my attention has turned a little more to this game of mine that was gathering dust in my library. So, to bring it justice... well, here I am! Ready to resurrect Blip in Loop and finally prepare for the long journey it has ahead...

But, enough stalling!!!

Starting Game Maker...

Starting Drawing Program...

Starting Using My Brain...

And I'm ready to revive Blip!

So, to begin with, after having several experiences with several games I've made, it's become more than obvious that for me to get started in game production, I need to find its "soul", its reason for existing!

With Cube, it exists because, one, it has a story to tell; two, it was created to be the project that would mark my "company" in the market; three, it was created to modernize the classic platform style; four, as my first game, it represents my game development career itself; so, yeah, there's no shortage of reasons for it to exist.

But, what about Blip? Well, there's no better way to find out than... going back in time...

That's right!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to download the game, test it, research how the game jam where it was born went, and what my intentions were at the time! That's right, time to activate...

- detective mode...

Starting off our investigation, Blip in Loop was made for Game Jam 2023, two years ago (cough-cough, I'm getting old, cough-cough) and the game jam theme was... Roles Reversed...

And... how does Blip fit into this?!

(Meanwhile, here I am with a loop-themed jam, but relax, this anger of mine will pass... someday...)

But, focusing, let's see how my past self said this game fit the theme...

"Instead of platforms and NPCs being the player's supports, here they become obstacles that the player has to avoid." (PlayerXT 2023)

Yeah... I didn't know a thing about what I was doing back then...

Now... let's look at the scores!

OK, the game's greatest strength was the presentation, which is understandable. This game already has a more robust lore, a focus on the environment... plus it has a cute protagonist!

(You have no idea how a cute protagonist wins over the audience.)

Otherwise, the fun was middling, and creativity was the lowest category, understandable. Blip wasn't made to break established foundations; its strength lies in the world and the story.

Now for Finally, the comments...

Oh...

Aheem...

(Omg... am I the only one starting to feel embarrassed when I read my old comments?)

Okay, besides the obvious, that this certainly didn't fit the theme, some players complained about it being short (something that would naturally only be resolved with more development time) and the game being simple, which is understandable. I wasn't very experienced with my platform engine at the time, so it makes sense. Aside from that, there were compliments about the aesthetics, the idea, and the gameplay style.

well-well...

Now, time for the most important part! Testing the game myself, activating...

- gamer mode...

Okay, now Let's go!!! WOO...

[5 minutes later]

...

Okay...

Yeah...

"uh-huh"

where do I start?

Hmmm...

1- The animations were great, I just think Blip's model could use some tweaking.

2- The environment itself is really well done, it really gives you the feeling of being on a snowy mountain.

3- The music is the best part of this game so far, to be honest. Of course, the menu music is completely awful, but when you get to the first level, BOOM! What incredible music, it perfectly captures the essence of the game, and the funniest thing is that this was one of the first songs I composed!

4- The gameplay... oh, my dear gameplay... I didn't like it...

[credits]

Look, when I'm playing, it doesn't feel like I'm controlling a small furry creature... but rather a Formula 1 car that for some reason bounces! Look, I understand what my past self wanted to do: a momentum-based game. The more you run, the higher you jump. The thing is... that doesn't fit with what this game wants to be, and unfortunately, I'll disappoint my past self, because from now on, I'll follow a new philosophy based on a new ideia of gameplay, but... I think I'll leave that for the next episode, until then...

PlayerXT has left the server...

Get Blip in loop
