Devlog of demo 4 #9

◇Day 11 of Demo 4 Production◇

...

What? Did you miss the "Hello humans, this is PlayerXT and today is..."? Well... you didn't anymore.

Okay, today, I'll continue making the new area known (to me) as the space avenue.

So, to recap the basics of the level, the idea is simple:

"A large, luminous avenue in the middle of space, full of cargo and machines passing through it, while Willy goes through these machines running away from the spherical guards, all this in zero gravity!"

...

(Why do I sound like a crazy person describing this?)

Okay, let's first take a look at the level...

[empty...]

Yeah, I guess that's what happens when you want to copy an entire Hub world to use its model in a level... but wait... I could use all this space to make...

TWO AVENUES!!!

(don't ask me where this idea came from because I don't even know)

In other words, now the idea is to build two avenues, one on top of the other, where Willy could walk between them. The top one would be the hardest to stay on, and the second one would be the hardest to fall off of, but if you fall off of it you die.

With the idea for this level ready, I can finally start creating the art for one of the most striking enemies in the game, the Spherics...

Giving a brief introduction to the game's lore, the Spherics are the aliens from the cubes' perspective, a galactic military force that invaded their planet, soooo... they are ''THE'' antagonists of the game, and this makes them one of the most interesting and difficult species to create for this game, because I need to create mechanics that make it clear that they are not joking around and these are the guys you will avoid at all costs.

In terms of design, I don't need to do much, after all, I've already done concept art of how they should be, that is:

"Spherical beings that wear iron armor in cold colors (usually red/wine), that have red visors that hide their eyes with reflections and carry the most varied energy weapons to, guess what? make you lose all your precious hearts."

In short, they are the total opposite of the cubes. Cubes are expressive, simple and organic, Spherics are cold and without expression, cubes have fur, Spherics have iron armor, cubes are colored, Spherics are all red, and the list go on.

As for the mechanics, I just need to use a little code here, a little headache there, and that's it! Now it works as if they were advanced guards, you just need to get a little bit into their vision and "BAM!", they will shoot themselves in your direction without you having time to say "Ah".

Of course, this is just one version of them, after all, there are several Spherics with different jobs and specialties, but, since it is the second level of the game, I will go easy on the players.

Now just adjust them in strategic points in the level, and that's it!

Spherics ready! And, my devlog for today too!
