◇Day 4 of demo production 4◇

And today I'm going to fix something that's been bothering me a lot lately...

But first tell me, what is this?


If you answered "a red ball" congratulations! You're absolutely right! And... that's the problem...

This was supposed to be an enemy, you know? Something that KILLS you! And that was the best I could do? A spinning red ball? Of course I understand that everything used to be like this, even the character was literally a blue cube, and that I also didn't have as much "artistic" knowledge as I do today, but now that there's a universe and a whole context for the game, it's time to give this enemy some artistic touches.

So... let's get to work!

First, let's see what I'm going to use from this model... hmn...

And that's it, like, what else am I going to use from this, this is literally the definition of the enemy!

Okay, now with the idea ready, time to draw!

Be Cube has a very pixel art style, you know? Characters like Willy have a size of 32x32 pixels, the ground too, collectibles are 16x16 and so on. This is a challenge sometimes because you have to balance the clarity of what's happening on the screen with the size of the characters, but, since this was the first style I learned, then I don't have much difficulty working with this limitation, in fact I have difficulty working with large sprites, but, let's leave this arc of overcoming for future projects, because, Be Cube is pixel art, and it's pixel art that I'm going to use today.

Without further ado, first of all, this is a lava place, so it would make sense that this was some kind of machine or robot to resist the high temperatures of the place, so I'm going to change the central color to reddish gray and add some red details to make it clear that this is an enemy and belongs to the spherical ones (the game's central enemies), and to finish off I added some spike details around the edges to give the design some style, and that's it!

                                                                

Hmn... wait a minute... spikes... floor...

Yeah... now the enemy is surrounding the platform where he gives context to the spikes... I really am bad at keeping an idea simple, aren't I?
